When Did Guns in School Become “Normal”?
The following is from the Chattanooga Pulse regarding an incident at Brainerd High School, a student and a gun.
The lie:
Brainerd High School officials get a tip that a boy will be coming to school with a gun. A school resource officer is waiting for him as he gets there. The boy tries to throw the gun in the trash, but the officer sees him do it, apprehends the boy and takes him into custody before getting the gun out of the trash.
The truth:
School was in session for more than an hour, no uniformed police officers were on campus, and an assistant principal saw the gun. The assistant principal then apprehended, tackled and restrained the student until police arrived, according to the 911 call. Listen to the 911 call at ThePulseBlog.com
Michelle Michaud, speaking on behalf of Chattanooga Police Chief Freeman Cooper:
They have bomb threats, gun threats all the time… This was a normal course of events, quite frankly.
She was talking about a school!!!!! This should not be normal. Not for any of our schools. What is being done to these students and their parents? It’s sad that we have come to the point where this is normal and nothing to be concerned about.
And people act like they can’t figure out why so many parents and students prefer private or home schooling to Hamilton County public schools.
