10 counties in Tennessee as well as 16 in Georgia have been declared disaster areas after storms ripped through our area April 25-28. We are still in shock as we see the devastation tornadoes can and have done to our friends and neighbors.
FEMA issued a release today regarding disaster relief. Even though it is titled Tennessee Disaster Survivors it is not Tennessee specific. Anyone in an affected area (TN, GA, AL, etc) will find it useful because there are some questions and answers as well as numbers to get help.
On a personal note, if anyone needs anything, please let me know. I have been donating to organizations taking up collections and would be more than happy to help get some things directly to you if it’s within my grasp. My prayers continue to go out for those affected.
The announcement came yesterday. I really hope this gets worked out because we need a shot in the arm around here.
TFP reports:
State and local officials on Monday confirmed that Amazon.com is in discussions about locating two fulfillment centers in Chattanooga and Bradley County.
If negotiations are successful, the two projects would represent a combined investment of more than $164 million to create more than 2 million square feet of distribution space and up to 1,400 new jobs over a period of years, officials said.
If you are planning of boating to north Knoxville for the Tennessee-Alabama game don’t forget the locks at Watts Bar are closed
and will not be reopening until November 3rd. You’ll need to get out of the water and trailer your boat across so have a car and trailer available.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close Watts Bar Lock for three weeks beginning at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13. There is no auxiliary lock available at Watts Bar, so this will affect river traffic between Chattanooga and Knoxville—including fans planning to travel by boat from Chattanooga and points south to the Tennessee-Alabama football game in Knoxville on Saturday, Oct. 23.
The closure is for inspection and major repairs to the underwater components of the lock. The lock is scheduled to reopen at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Daylight Savings Time is this Sunday so remember to set your locks ahead an hour before going to bed Saturday night.
It’s a good time to check smoke detector batteries, medicine cabinet for expired products, first aid kit is up-to-date and the lights & signals on your car & bike.
Did you know Benjamin Franklin created the idea of DST to make use of all available sunshine. Daylight Savings Time was later implemented and now used all over the world.
My sister has Myasthenia Gravis.
Myasthenia gravis is a neuromuscular disorder characterized by variable weakness of voluntary muscles, which often improves with rest and worsens with activity. The condition is caused by an abnormal immune response.
She has to have weekly Plasmapheresis.
A technique in which blood plasma containing antibodies against the body is removed from the body and replaced with fluids donated antibody-free plasma.
She frequently needs blood transfusions as well.
If you donate and do not name someone who it is for would you please donate in her name? Insurance doesn’t pay for blood and her supply of whole blood is down to 2 pints. Her name is Janet Rhodes and she gets her treatments at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.
Any donations would be appreciated.
