Realtors Can Direct You to the Source of Info But Can’t Always Be the Source
Realtors and agents can give buyers a considerable amount of information but there are certain things we simply cannot
discuss. If we provide information about local demographics it is known as ‘steering’ which is against Fair Housing laws.
Fair Housing laws prohibit discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status and the handicapped. These same laws are intended to prohibit agents from helping buyers locate properties based on the ELIMINATION of any of these protected classes, even if the buyer requests it.
Your agent can give you some resources where you will find the information you want. We just can’t discuss what you find.
Bottom line is that it might seem like your agent is not doing their job for you and leaving you short-handed on information, the reality is they are enforcing fair housing laws.
