Realtors Can Direct You to the Source of Info But Can’t Always Be the Source

Posted in Governmental Issues by Karen Rhodes on February 17th, 2011

Realtors and agents can give buyers a considerable amount of information but there are certain things we simply cannot fair-housingdiscuss.  If we provide information about local demographics it is known as ‘steering’ which is against Fair Housing laws.

Fair Housing laws prohibit discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status and the handicapped.  These same laws are intended to prohibit agents from helping buyers locate properties based on the ELIMINATION of any of these protected classes, even if the buyer requests it.

Your agent can give you some resources where you will find the information you want.  We just can’t discuss what you find.

Bottom line is that it might seem like your agent is not doing their job for you and leaving you short-handed on information, the reality is they are enforcing fair housing laws.

Did It Cost You Money To Wait on Prices to Bottom Out?

Posted in Buyers by Karen Rhodes on February 15th, 2011

Still waiting to buy till prices ‘hit bottom’?  Doing that is actually costing you money.  The folks over at KCM put it in pretty simple terms

Prices have remained stable but interest rates have risen dramatically in the last 90 days.

The price is the same, it just costs more.

Waiting just 90 days to purchase that $170,000 home has already cost you $89.44 per month, $1,073.28 per year or $32,198.40 over the life of  a 30 year mortgage.
