East Ridge Mayor Mike Steele will be recommending a 20 cent tax increase to the council Thursday night.

"Mayor Steele said that even with the increase, the $1.27 tax rate is one of the lowest in Hamilton County and one of the lowest for a city the size of East Ridge."  According to the Chattanoogan.

Signal Mountain and East Brainerd News

Posted in General Real Estate Info by Karen Rhodes on July 9th, 2007

A heated debate took place at the Signal Mountain Town Meeting tonight about rerouting part of Brow Road so developers can build condos.

In an attempt to stop private development of 2 acres in East Brainerd the neighbors have contracted to purchase the land from the owner.  Not sure how this one is going to pan out since a developer also says he has a contract.  All parties have attorneys so we’ll see.

Chattanooga MLS Stats June 2007

Posted in Chattanooga MLS Stats by Karen Rhodes on July 9th, 2007

I am as optimistic as the next person but when you see a 20% decrease in sales and a 13% increase in inventory over last June it’s hard to keep a positive attitude about the market.  Even compared to last month we see a decrease of 11% in sales.  The increase in inventory is only 2% but accounts for 100 extra homes available.

While my personal sales volume is higher than this same period last year I see many of the newer agents struggling to stay in business.  Sellers are getting frustrated and buyers are making low offers due to the sheer number of homes available.

Henry Says “No” to Hamilton County Property Tax Increase

Posted in Governmental Issues by Karen Rhodes on July 6th, 2007

Hamilton County Commission Chairman Larry Henry says he will not support the property tax increase because it is not needed.

His reasons were exactly as I posted previously.  BEP money and county growth are the equivalent to a 26.2 cent increase so he sees "no justification for this tax increase."
